The prospect of living in Zimbabwe is somewhat of a risk at the moment, so you could envision that there would be little affinity for supporting Zimbabwe’s gambling dens. In fact, it appears to be functioning the other way around, with the awful market conditions creating a greater eagerness to play, to attempt to find a quick win, a way out of the difficulty.

For nearly all of the locals living on the abysmal local earnings, there are 2 popular forms of betting, the national lotto and Zimbet. As with practically everywhere else on the planet, there is a state lotto where the chances of succeeding are surprisingly small, but then the winnings are also remarkably high. It’s been said by financial experts who study the situation that most don’t purchase a ticket with the rational assumption of winning. Zimbet is centered on one of the national or the UK football divisions and involves determining the results of future games.

Zimbabwe’s gambling dens, on the other hand, look after the considerably rich of the society and tourists. Until not long ago, there was a very large tourist industry, based on safaris and visits to Victoria Falls. The market collapse and connected bloodshed have carved into this market.

Amongst Zimbabwe’s gambling halls, there are 2 in the capital, Harare, the Carribea Bay Resort and Casino, which has 5 gaming tables and slots, and the Plumtree gambling hall, which has only slots. The Zambesi Valley Hotel and Entertainment Center in Kariba also has just slots. Mutare has the Monclair Hotel and Casino and the Leopard Rock Hotel and Casino, the two of which offer gaming tables, one armed bandits and electronic poker machines, and Victoria Falls houses the Elephant Hills Hotel and Casino and the Makasa Sun Hotel and Casino, each of which has video poker machines and blackjack, roulette, and craps tables.

In addition to Zimbabwe’s gambling dens and the above mentioned lottery and Zimbet (which is very like a parimutuel betting system), there are a total of two horse racing tracks in the country: the Matabeleland Turf Club in Bulawayo (the 2nd city) and the Borrowdale Park in Harare.

Given that the market has contracted by beyond 40 percent in the past few years and with the associated poverty and bloodshed that has cropped up, it is not well-known how well the vacationing business which funds Zimbabwe’s casinos will do in the next few years. How many of the casinos will be alive until things improve is simply not known.
