There is an appealing history to the Cambodia casinos that sit just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is not allowed. Eight casinos are established in a generally tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect spot, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; although, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 1700, and despite the fact visas are allegedly needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is true of many border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship gambling hall, highlights 150 slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga gambling den is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the common table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel building that contains a number of amenities accompanying the gambling hall, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slots and 88 gaming tables.
